PRC - Photographic Resource Center
Boston - 519 Somerville Ave. #198 - MA 02215
The Photographic Resource Center (PRC) is a nonprofit organization devoted to the exploration and celebration of photographic art and lens-based media. Founded in 1976 by Chris Enos and Carl Chiarenza, the PRC emerged from a grassroots effort to connect Boston’s growing photography community. What began as a simple newsletter listing local photography exhibitions quickly evolved into a vital institution that has played a central role in shaping New England’s photographic landscape.

Over the decades, the PRC has become a platform for creative expression, critical dialogue, and education. Through a diverse range of exhibitions, public lectures, and workshops, the organization engages artists and audiences alike in conversations about the evolving role of photography in art and culture. Its programs are designed to support emerging and established photographers while welcoming the public into a deeper appreciation of visual storytelling.

The PRC is committed to fostering an inclusive environment that reflects a wide array of voices, experiences, and artistic practices. By championing equity and accessibility in the arts, it continues to expand its reach and relevance within both the local and international photographic communities.

Historically housed at Boston University, the PRC found a new home in 2017 as a Resident Partner at Lesley University’s College of Art and Design in Cambridge, Massachusetts. This partnership has further strengthened its educational mission and provided a vibrant space for exhibitions and programming.

With a legacy of leadership from influential figures in photography and the continued guidance of a dedicated board and staff, the PRC remains an essential resource for artists, educators, students, and collectors. Open to the public and rooted in collaboration, the Photographic Resource Center invites everyone to discover the power and possibilities of photography.

Vanessa Paradis: Paradissime
Since her sensational debut at age 14 with the inevitable “Joe le taxi,” Vanessa Paradis has entered our lives and is now part of our cultural landscape, whether through music, cinema, or fashion... Through her work, her consistency, and her grace, she has won over even the most reluctant and become an important and respected figure. A muse to many musicians and filmmakers, her unique photogenic qualities also inspired the greatest photographers, starting with Jean-Baptiste Mondino, when she collaborated with Serge Gainsbourg in 1990 on the song “Tandem” and the video that accompanied its release. The famous rock photographer Claude Gassian followed her on the tour for the album “Natural High” and became a close collaborator, documenting her life on tour and the emotions she shared with her audience. As for Ellen von Unwerth, she captured Vanessa's beauty, imagination, and sensuality in numerous sessions, each more surprising than the last. The wonderful Paolo Roversi, also inspired by her elegance, captured the intensity of her gaze like no one else. I also think of Kate Barry, who photographed her in the 2000s, half-elf, half-dancer, presenting an unexpected and captivating facet of the artist. We are therefore taking advantage of the release of her seventh studio album, “Le retour des beaux jours,” on Barclay to pay her a fervent tribute and share her extraordinary life in photos with the public.
