Casemore Gallery announces its representation of Mike Brodie, marking a significant new chapter in the artist’s career. The collaboration launches with Brodie’s debut solo exhibition at the gallery, opening Saturday, May 2, from 5–7 pm.

Born in 1985 in Mesa, Arizona, Mike Brodie emerged as one of the most compelling voices in contemporary American photography. His journey began in 2003 with a chance discovery of a Polaroid camera—an encounter that would shape both his life and artistic direction. Traveling extensively by freight train across the United States, Brodie immersed himself in a transient subculture of drifters and wanderers, documenting their lives from within. Under the name “The Polaroid Kidd,” he created a raw and deeply personal body of work that quickly gained international exposure.

Following the discontinuation of Polaroid’s SX-70 film, Brodie transitioned to 35mm photography, culminating in his acclaimed monograph A Period of Juvenile Prosperity (2013). The book received widespread critical recognition, earning “Best Exhibition of the Year” from Vince Aletti in Artforum and being listed among the year’s best photobooks by The Guardian, The New York Times, The Telegraph, and American Photo. Today, the publication is widely regarded as a landmark in the evolution of American photography, extending the legacy of artists such as Walker Evans, Robert Frank, and Nan Goldin.

In 2010, Brodie stepped away from the art world to train as a diesel mechanic in Nashville, later settling in Winnemucca, Nevada. His more recent work, published in the monograph Failing, reflects a decade of personal transformation—capturing themes of love, loss, resilience, and spiritual introspection across the American landscape.

Brodie’s photographs are included in major public and private collections, including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Martin Parr Foundation, the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive, and the Sir Elton John Photography Collection. He currently lives with his wife and son in Pensacola, Florida.
