To celebrate
Earth Day 2026,
CENTER, the renowned nonprofit photography organization based in Santa Fe, New Mexico, proudly presents
Elements of Wonder: When Nature Becomes Art, a captivating photographic exhibition by acclaimed artist
Jon McCormack. The exhibition will be on view at CENTER from April 17 through May 17, 2026, featuring an Opening Reception on Friday, April 17, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM (MT), and an Artist Talk on April 30, from 5:30 – 6:30 PM (MT).
In today’s world of constant digital stimulation, Elements of Wonder offers a restorative escape, inviting visitors to reconnect with the natural world through the lens of photography. Jon McCormack’s work captures the intricate patterns, textures, and abstract forms found in nature, revealing its hidden beauty at scales both intimate and monumental. From the delicate geometry of a leaf to the sweeping vistas of untouched landscapes, the exhibition transforms the organic world into living art, encouraging viewers to pause, reflect, and experience a renewed sense of awe.
Elements of Wonder: When Nature Becomes Art not only celebrates the aesthetic power of nature but also underscores its fragility and the shared responsibility we all have in preserving our planet. Through immersive imagery, McCormack demonstrates how photography can illuminate the complexity, resilience, and artistry of the living earth, inspiring deeper appreciation and environmental mindfulness.
Research in environmental psychology has long highlighted the benefits of engaging with natural environments, linking exposure to reduced stress, improved mood, and enhanced cognitive function. Encounters with awe-inspiring natural phenomena—whether through direct experience or mediated by art—have been shown to foster a profound sense of connection, empathy, and reflection. McCormack’s photography invites audiences to cultivate these experiences of awe, reconnect with the rhythms of nature, and consider their own role in sustaining the environment.
This exhibition is an essential stop for photography enthusiasts, environmental advocates, and anyone seeking a moment of mindful engagement with the beauty of the natural world. By blending art, science, and environmental consciousness, Elements of Wonder creates a space where visitors can explore the intersection of nature, creativity, and visual storytelling.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Jon McCormack is a photographer whose work is deeply informed by his
upbringing in the stark, untamed landscapes of the Australian Outback, where early life among
sheep and cattle fostered a profound respect for nature’s rhythms of resilience and fragility.
Beginning as a teenager photographing quiet, often-overlooked moments in the bush, he
developed a photographic voice rooted in patience, attention, and ecological empathy. Today,
his images explore the intricate patterns and emotional textures of wild places, seeking to inspire
both wonder and a sense of responsibility, and are widely published and used by global
conservation organizations to advocate for the protection of fragile ecosystems.
