After some soul searching, we have decided to pivot our portfolio reviews to a virtual format. Our mission is to make portfolio reviews affordable and accessible. We had truly hoped the time was right to return to in-person reviews, but potential participants encountered escalated lodging costs and unreliable transportation in this continuing COVID age.
The good news: our past two years of reviews have been virtual and we received rave reviews for them. We have reduced the fee, with a guarantee of 8 reviews. We will keep our format of 30-minute sessions with 5-minute breaks between sessions. We will feature 12 stellar reviewers and the reviews will be limited to 20 participants, who will need to be able to share folio images via Zoom screen sharing or by uploading them to Dropbox.
The registration deadline is September 25th, on a first-come basis. The registration fee is $300, with a reduced rate of $200 for registered college students.
Online reviews for emerging photographers focusing on theme development and portfolio building.
The reviews initially set out to determine what the framework is for success. Does the photography edge towards personal expression or is it seeking a wider audience, or aiming for both. Once this is agreed we work towards offering the best supportive feedback and pathway, referencing similar work and suggesting photographers to look at.
Sessions are through an agreed appointment time with options for virtual meet-ups spread over several months.

After much discussion, Photolucida has reluctantly made the decision to postpone our Portfolio Reviews Event (originally scheduled for April, 2021) into the year 2022 due to COVID pandemic concerns. An event involving hundreds of photographers, reviewers, staff and volunteers, the Portfolio Reviews event is based on almost 3,000 scheduled face-to-face conversations and large-scale gatherings (Portfolio Walk, Photobook Fair, Closing Party, etc.) involving both both participants and the Portland public. Approximately 90% of our participants travel from outside of Portland, both nationally and internationally. With no way to guarantee the safety of all participants, we feel that it is not realistic to attempt to organize this event at this time

For this 28th edition of AAP Magazine, we were looking for the heart and soul of a society and its people. Whether photographed in the countryside, or in an urban setting, the images we chose reflect the diversity of the photographers background and approach to street photography. The twenty-five selected photographers have many talents, an eye for detail, light and composition. Thanks to their ability to grasp decisive moments, they allowed us to become a spectator of their wanderings, a curious observer of people's behavior.
For its 6th edition, the Prix Virginia will be presented to the British-Egyptian photographer Laura El-Tantawy during an online ceremony held on Tuesday November 8th 2022
The World Photography Organisation is delighted to announce the acclaimed Japanese photographer Rinko Kawauchi as the Outstanding Contribution to Photography recipient of the Sony World Photography Awards 2023. One of the most important Japanese photographers working today, Kawauchi has achieved international renown for her intimate and luminous images, capturing ephemeral moments of everyday life.
We were looking for work that would celebrate colors, showing its influence, its possibilities, and also its nuances. In the end we chose twenty-five photographers (from 15 different countries and 5 continents!) for their different approach to color photography. Their color palette is diverse: bold, vibrant as well as pastel, or even monochromatic but each time their conscious choice adds to the photograph's esthetic appeal and convey sensory pleasure.

The two winners of the 2022 Leica Oskar Barnack Award (LOBA), the renowned international photo competition that was held for the 42nd time this year, have now been selected. In the main category of the Leica Oskar Barnack Award, it was Kiana Hayeri – born in Iran and brought up in Canada – who convinced the jury of five. Her project, the “Written on the Ice, Left in the Sun” series, was proposed by no less than three nominators.
For this 26th edition of AAP Magazine, we were looking for submissions of works of art that explore composition and form as a fundamental aspect of the photographic aesthetic, be it pure visual formalism or in support of a thematic objective. Understanding shape and form is one of the pillars of photography composition, and it can make even the most common object become a work of art. Geometric, organic, positive or negative, shapes contribute to a photograph’s overall esthetics and vibes.
