Lucie Foundation
Los Angeles - House of Lucie LA P.O. Box 292281 - CA 90029
The Lucie Foundation is an international nonprofit organization dedicated entirely to the advancement and celebration of photography. Founded as a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation, it operates year-round programs designed to support photographers at every stage of their careers, from emerging voices to acknowledged masters. At the core of its mission is the belief that photography is both an art form and a powerful means of understanding the world, capable of shaping culture, preserving history, and inspiring change across borders and generations.

The Foundation’s most recognized initiative is the Lucie Awards, a biennial gala that honors master photographers whose work has made a lasting impact on the medium. Since its launch in 2003, the Lucie Awards have paid tribute to more than 170 influential figures spanning fine art, documentary, photojournalism, fashion, and contemporary practice. Determined by an international advisory board, these honors celebrate not only individual achievement but also photography’s evolving role in society. Complementing this flagship event are programs such as the Lucie Technical Awards, Impact Awards, Photo Book Prize, and Story Behind the Image, all of which spotlight excellence, innovation, and narrative depth in photographic practice.

A defining feature of the Lucie Foundation is the House of Lucie, its global network of photography spaces that serve as both exhibition venues and cultural hubs. Located in cities including Budapest, Athens, Ostuni, and Samui, these spaces house the permanent collection of Lucie Award Honorees while hosting rotating exhibitions, talks, workshops, and public programs. Through these centers, photography is presented as a living, accessible art form, encouraging dialogue between established masters, emerging photographers, and diverse audiences.

Education and mentorship are central to the Foundation’s commitment to the future of photography. Through scholarships, open calls, and cash grants, the Lucie Foundation actively supports photographers developing original and compelling bodies of work. Its programs embrace all photographic approaches, from analog to digital, conceptual to documentary. By honoring visionaries and nurturing new talent, the Lucie Foundation continues to strengthen photography’s global community and ensure its enduring relevance in a rapidly changing visual world.
