Santa Barbara Museum of Art

The Santa Barbara Museum of Art (SBMA) stands as a beacon of cultural excellence in Southern California, offering a world-class collection that far exceeds what one might expect from a city of its size. This striking work is the only intact mural by the celebrated Mexican artist in the United States, and a cornerstone of SBMA’s distinguished Latin American collection.

SBMA reaches more than 40,000 people each year through its educational initiatives, which include free programs aligned with California State Standards for K–12 students, after-school art experiences, and transportation for school groups throughout Santa Barbara County.

Despite its wide-ranging impact, the museum receives less than one percent of its funding from government grants and operates without regular tax support. Yet nearly a fifth of every dollar it spends goes toward educational efforts, emphasizing its commitment to community enrichment through the arts.
