The Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum
Miami - FIU Modesto A. Maidique Campus 10975 SW 17th St - FL 33199
The Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum, located on the Modesto A. Maidique Campus of Florida International University, has become one of South Florida’s most important cultural destinations. What began in 1977 as a modest gallery space of under 3,000 square feet has grown into a dynamic institution with local, national, and international impact. Over the decades, the museum’s steady expansion and innovative programming earned it the designation of a Major Cultural Institution by both the State of Florida and Miami-Dade County, a recognition that underscores its role as a cornerstone of the region’s cultural identity.

Accredited by the American Association of Museums in 1999 and named a Smithsonian Affiliate in 2001, the Frost Art Museum has continually elevated its standards in both exhibitions and community engagement. The decision in 2003 to rename the museum in honor of Patricia and Phillip Frost followed the groundbreaking of a bold new facility, which opened to the public in 2008. Designed by Yann Weymouth of Hellmuth, Obata + Kassabaum (HOK), the 46,000 square-foot building is a striking addition to FIU’s Avenue of the Arts, offering expansive galleries and versatile spaces for learning and gathering.

The museum’s programs range from innovative exhibitions that bring global perspectives to Miami, to lectures and educational outreach initiatives that reflect the cultural diversity of South Florida. Its commitment to accessibility is evident in its policy of free admission, made possible through sustained support from state agencies, private donors, and corporate partnerships.

Today, the Frost Art Museum stands as a symbol of artistic excellence and inclusivity, a place where visitors of all backgrounds can explore creativity, engage with new ideas, and connect with the power of art. It continues to shape Miami’s cultural landscape while serving as a resource for FIU students and the wider community.

Vanessa Paradis: Paradissime
Since her sensational debut at age 14 with the inevitable “Joe le taxi,” Vanessa Paradis has entered our lives and is now part of our cultural landscape, whether through music, cinema, or fashion... Through her work, her consistency, and her grace, she has won over even the most reluctant and become an important and respected figure. A muse to many musicians and filmmakers, her unique photogenic qualities also inspired the greatest photographers, starting with Jean-Baptiste Mondino, when she collaborated with Serge Gainsbourg in 1990 on the song “Tandem” and the video that accompanied its release. The famous rock photographer Claude Gassian followed her on the tour for the album “Natural High” and became a close collaborator, documenting her life on tour and the emotions she shared with her audience. As for Ellen von Unwerth, she captured Vanessa's beauty, imagination, and sensuality in numerous sessions, each more surprising than the last. The wonderful Paolo Roversi, also inspired by her elegance, captured the intensity of her gaze like no one else. I also think of Kate Barry, who photographed her in the 2000s, half-elf, half-dancer, presenting an unexpected and captivating facet of the artist. We are therefore taking advantage of the release of her seventh studio album, “Le retour des beaux jours,” on Barclay to pay her a fervent tribute and share her extraordinary life in photos with the public.

All About Photo Presents ’Rural Life in the Hudson Valley’ by Susan Anthony
The photographs in this exhibition are part of a project about rural life in the Hudson Valley. For the past five years, I have been taking photographs of individuals and families in upstate New York. Having spent many years as a weekender and homeowner, most of the people I knew were other New Yorkers, and I never had the chance to meet people who grew up in this rural area. During the pandemic, I spent many hours outside with my camera, walking along the road and photographing local residents. Eventually, I decided to create a project about the people I met. Now, as some of these individuals have become friends, I continue to meet others whose families have lived in this area for many generations.
