TAM - Tacoma Art Museum

Tacoma Art Museum (TAM), situated in the heart of downtown Tacoma, serves as a vibrant cultural hub connecting people to art through engaging exhibitions, dynamic programming, and a deep commitment to community. Located on the ancestral lands of the Puyallup Tribe, TAM honors the enduring presence and cultural legacy of the Coast Salish peoples.

The museum’s growing collection of over 5,400 works places a strong emphasis on art and artists from the Pacific Northwest and the broader western United States. TAM is home to the largest public collection of glass art by Dale Chihuly, a native of Tacoma whose work has helped define contemporary glassmaking. It also boasts the nation’s most extensive collection of studio art jewelry created by Northwest artists, reflecting a regional strength in craft and design.

Among the museum’s most significant holdings is the Haub Family Collection of Western American Art, comprising approximately 300 pieces that span two centuries. This collection uniquely blends traditional and modern interpretations of the American West and represents the first major acquisition of its kind in the Pacific Northwest. TAM also houses key works from the Safeco/Liberty Mutual Collection, 19th-century European and 20th-century American art, and one of the finest collections of Japanese woodblock prints on the West Coast.

In recent years, the Benaroya Collection has further enriched TAM’s offerings with 225 works that include studio glass, paintings, and sculpture.
