Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art
Las Vegas - University of Nevada, Las Vegas - 4505 S. Maryland Pkwy. - NV 89154
Located on the campus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art is a welcoming and inclusive space dedicated to connecting diverse communities with contemporary art. As the only free art museum in Las Vegas, the Barrick serves as a cultural bridge, removing financial and social barriers that often limit access to the arts. Its mission is rooted in the belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to engage with art that challenges, inspires, and reflects the world we live in.

Originally established in 1967 as part of Nevada’s Desert Research Institute, the museum began by showcasing scientific collections and offering educational programs about the desert environment. Over time, the focus shifted toward contemporary art, and by 2012, the Barrick was fully integrated into UNLV’s College of Fine Arts, adopting its current identity as a museum dedicated to visual culture and community engagement.

The Barrick emphasizes inclusivity in its exhibitions and programming. Recognizing the historical exclusion of BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ voices in museum spaces, it actively works to feature artists from underrepresented backgrounds. Collaborations with the Clark County School District, UNLV departments, and local organizations ensure that its programs reflect the needs and perspectives of the Las Vegas community.

With a growing collection that includes regional and international contemporary artists, the museum serves not only as a venue for exhibitions but also as a resource for scholars and students. Through lectures, workshops, and community events—all free to the public—the Barrick fosters a dynamic environment for learning and creativity.

The Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art continues to evolve, embodying its commitment to equity, accessibility, and the transformative power of art in one of the most diverse cities in the United States.
