Obscura Gallery

Obscura Gallery, located in the heart of Santa Fe’s historic Canyon Road arts district, is a destination for collectors and enthusiasts seeking the finest examples of photography—past and present. Founded in 2016 by photography scholar and dealer Jennifer Schlesinger, the gallery is devoted to showcasing both contemporary and vintage works that exemplify technical mastery and artistic depth. With a keen focus on the fine photographic print, Obscura Gallery honors the nearly 200-year evolution of the medium, while celebrating the progressive processes shaping photography today.

Representing a diverse roster of artists, the gallery presents imagery that spans genres such as landscape, portraiture, mixed media, photojournalism, and still life. Many of these contemporary photographers draw inspiration from historical methods, pushing the boundaries of traditional practice to create visually compelling narratives rooted in our shared humanity. At the same time, Obscura Gallery maintains a strong connection to the past with an ever-evolving inventory of 19th and 20th century photography. This includes rare works by Southwestern and Mexican photographers, as well as pieces by iconic mid-century figures from across the globe.

Beyond its exhibition program, Obscura Gallery offers a range of advisory and consulting services to collectors, estates, and institutions. With Schlesinger’s background in appraisal and collection management, clients receive expert guidance on everything from acquisitions and inventory to consignments and deaccessions. The gallery is also proud to be certified as a Women’s Business Enterprise and has been a member of the Association of International Photography Art Dealers (AIPAD) since its founding year.
