Photography Curiosities:

Our Urban Fragmentation: The Aesthetics of Ambiguity
As a photographer, I always wondered why we insisted on the concept of "still life," when life is nothing but dynamic. Even inanimate objects are dynamic, changing their appearance as well as character in light. The Stillness Aesthetic is better known as "Still Life." In art, whether it's painting or photography, this pursuit has been about clarity as it relates to light, in the rendition of the inanimate, as well as the animate. The pursuit of this stillness aesthetic is old. In photography, this takes us back to that day in 1838, when, after inventing the Daguerreotype photographic process, (…)

World Press Photo is having a rough time since their February announcement that over 20% of its contestants were disqualified for breaking contest rules. The Impermanence of Digital Photography
Digital photography has made photography easier, there's no doubt about it. Digital photographs are millions of different numbers in two-dimensional binary representing millions of pieces of data that make up one single digital image. What makes an image popular?
Hundreds of thousands of photographs are uploaded to the internet every minute through various social networking and photo sharing platforms. While some images get millions of views, others are completely ignored. Even from the same users, different photographs receive different number of views. This begs the question: What makes a photograph popular? Can we predict the number of views a photograph will receive even before it is uploaded? These are some of the questions we address in this work.

The itinerary of a hijacked photograph
Under the process of globalization, this photograph was not only changed but was also given a different author, establishing an emblematic case for the defense of artistic rights (badly respected in our internet age). This story begins with the Musée des Arts Décoratifs (Decorative Arts Museum), attendant to the Louvre Museum, in Paris, and with the exhibition staged by this Museum: "Dans la ligne de mire" ("On sight" septembre 2013 / march 2014); it continues with counterfeiting on an American web-site.
