The Certificate Program in Fine Art Photography is the heart of PCNW’s educational mission. Designed to be both technically rigorous and creatively engaging, it allows students to develop their personal voice while gaining comprehensive training in camera techniques, lighting, digital workflow, and fine art printing. Most students complete the program within three to five years, culminating in a year-long thesis project and a public gallery exhibition that showcases their creative evolution.
Early coursework emphasizes foundational skills through the Photo I–III sequence, along with digital editing, color management, and studio lighting. As students progress, they deepen their understanding through courses in photographic history, theory, and professional practices, situating their work within a broader artistic and cultural context. Elective options enable students to tailor their studies toward their own aesthetic interests, whether in portraiture, documentary, or conceptual art.
Advanced students participate in the Junior and Senior Seminar series, where they refine their conceptual and technical skills while developing cohesive bodies of work.
