The Institute of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (ICA LA) stands as a dynamic space dedicated to exploring the ever-evolving landscape of contemporary art and culture. Located in the vibrant Arts District of Downtown Los Angeles, the museum has become a center for experimentation and a platform for artists whose voices and visions challenge conventional perspectives. Rather than maintaining a permanent collection, ICA LA focuses on presenting innovative exhibitions and programs that highlight emerging talent, overlooked narratives, and the pressing issues of our time.

The institution’s story began in 1988, when it was founded as the Santa Monica Museum of Art. Nearly three decades later, in 2017, it reopened with a new identity and location in a 12,700-square-foot industrial building redesigned by wHY Architecture under the guidance of Kulapat Yantrasast. The facility offers flexible gallery space, areas for public engagement, and room for creative collaborations, all designed to reflect the museum’s mission of accessibility and innovation.

At the heart of ICA LA’s vision is a belief that art has the power to inspire discovery and expand understanding. Its curatorial approach challenges social, cultural, and historical hierarchies, while its educational initiatives and community partnerships bring people into dialogue with diverse ideas and practices. The museum is equally committed to fostering empathy, questioning the familiar, and making space for alternative perspectives.

Accessibility remains a guiding principle, with free admission ensuring that everyone can engage with its exhibitions and programs. In doing so, ICA LA reaffirms its role as both a cultural incubator and a civic resource, offering Angelenos and visitors alike an environment to encounter art that reimagines the world and redefines how we relate to one another. Through this spirit of openness and bold vision, ICA LA continues to shape the future of contemporary art in Los Angeles and beyond.

In Alpine Hiatus: The Snow No Longer Tastes Like Snow, Italian photographer and architect Filippo Poli turns his camera toward a landscape caught between memory and mutation. The project unfolds as both personal archaeology and ecological reflection — an inquiry into what remains when the snow, once a symbol of purity and permanence, becomes an artifact of artifice. Winner of the April 2026 All About Photo Solo Exhibition contest, Poli’s work traces the dissonance between remembrance and reality, offering a haunting meditation on disappearance.
