Elmhurst Art Museum
Elmhurst - 150 Cottage Hill Ave. - IL 60126
The Elmhurst Art Museum, established as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 1997, serves as a vibrant cultural hub in the Chicagoland area. Its mission is to spark creativity and cultural enrichment through visual arts, arts education, and architecture, offering diverse and thought-provoking exhibitions that reflect both local and global perspectives. The Museum’s commitment to accessibility ensures that art is a resource for all, inviting the community to explore, learn, and engage with contemporary artistic practice.

Photography holds a significant place within the Elmhurst Art Museum’s programming and collection. The Museum regularly features exhibitions that explore the medium’s capacity for storytelling, social commentary, and formal innovation. Through both historical and contemporary works, Elmhurst highlights the evolving language of photography, examining its intersections with identity, culture, and technological change. The Museum’s photography program emphasizes engagement, offering lectures, workshops, and artist talks that encourage visitors to understand and participate in the creative and critical processes that shape photographic art today.

The Museum’s architectural context adds a distinctive dimension to its exhibitions. Anchored by the Mies van der Rohe-designed McCormick House, which was relocated and incorporated into the Museum campus, Elmhurst integrates mid-century modern design with expansive galleries and educational spaces. The current facility, designed by DeStefano + Partners, provides over 15,000 square feet for exhibitions and programming, allowing the Museum to present photography alongside other media in thoughtfully curated contexts. This integration enhances the experience of visual narrative and encourages visitors to consider photography within broader artistic and architectural frameworks.

Through its photography-focused exhibitions, educational initiatives, and collection development, the Elmhurst Art Museum fosters dialogue between artists, students, and the public. By emphasizing both historical context and contemporary practice, the Museum provides a space where photography is not only displayed but interrogated, studied, and celebrated as a dynamic form of cultural expression. Elmhurst continues to inspire creativity and critical thinking while promoting an inclusive vision of art for the entire community.

In Alpine Hiatus: The Snow No Longer Tastes Like Snow, Italian photographer and architect Filippo Poli turns his camera toward a landscape caught between memory and mutation. The project unfolds as both personal archaeology and ecological reflection — an inquiry into what remains when the snow, once a symbol of purity and permanence, becomes an artifact of artifice. Winner of the April 2026 All About Photo Solo Exhibition contest, Poli’s work traces the dissonance between remembrance and reality, offering a haunting meditation on disappearance.
