MoMA PS1
Queens - 22-25 Jackson Avenue - NY 11101
MoMA PS1, nestled in the vibrant neighborhood of Long Island City, Queens, is one of the longest-standing and most innovative institutions dedicated to contemporary art in the United States. Originally founded by curator Alanna Heiss in 1971 as part of the Institute for Art and Urban Resources, the museum began its journey by transforming underutilized spaces across New York City into studios and exhibition sites. In 1976, it officially opened its doors in a decommissioned 19th-century public school building with the groundbreaking exhibition Rooms, setting a precedent for site-specific artistic interventions that continues to this day.

As a space rooted in experimentation, MoMA PS1 has evolved into a hub for avant-garde expression and cultural dialogue. It became affiliated with the Museum of Modern Art in 2000, and together they launched Greater New York, a recurring exhibition spotlighting emerging and under-recognized artists working in the five boroughs. Through this platform and others, PS1 has championed voices that reflect the diversity and dynamism of the city’s artistic landscape.

Beyond exhibitions, PS1 is deeply engaged with its surrounding community. Its courtyard has hosted public-facing projects like the Warm Up music series and served as a venue for forward-thinking architectural experiments. Programs such as Sunday Sessions and partnerships with organizations like The Studio Museum in Harlem and The Fortune Society have extended the institution’s reach and relevance, inviting artists, scholars, and activists to collaborate on projects that explore urgent social and cultural issues.

More than just a museum, MoMA PS1 is a living space for inquiry and transformation, constantly redefining what a contemporary art institution can be. Its commitment to experimentation, community, and critical engagement makes it a cornerstone of New York’s cultural identity.

All About Photo Presents ’Gutter Duchess’ by F. Bessma Rhea
Through her raw and poetic lens, F. Bessma Rhea presents Gutter Duchess, a deeply personal photographic series that examines the contradictions and complexities of womanhood — fragility and strength, silence and voice, vulnerability and power. The series follows the artist herself and the significant women in her life — friends, sisters, mothers, confidantes — each portrait resonating with emotional honesty and magnetic presence.
