Blue Sky Gallery

Blue Sky Gallery, founded in 1975 as the Oregon Center for the Photographic Arts, has grown from a small collective of five young photographers into one of the most respected venues for contemporary photography in the United States. From its earliest years, Blue Sky championed local talent while quickly broadening its reach to national and international photographers, many of whom were exhibited at the gallery early in their careers. This long-standing commitment to discovery and innovation has earned Blue Sky recognition as a leader in identifying and presenting new voices in photography.

Housed today in a 3,700-square-foot space within Portland’s historic DeSoto Building, the gallery offers an impressive and ambitious program. With 20 to 25 exhibitions presented annually, Blue Sky gives audiences access to a wide spectrum of photographic practices, from traditional analog methods to digital experimentation and conceptual projects. Its photography collection is defined not by a single aesthetic but by the shared vision of artists dedicated to pushing the medium forward. The gallery’s Pacific Northwest Drawers program provides a dedicated platform for regional photographers, offering juried opportunities to present original works.
