Photography allows me by subtle visual statement to produce images of ancient ruins; rich landscape, as well as reveal emotions in faces, the exuberance of children and the beauty of a single flower. Seeing the world through my lens fascinates and intrigues me. It is the ultimate exploration of contrast, detail and light.
Daniel Azoulay, gallery director, has been a member of the global art community for over thirty years. Schooled in the discipline of fine art photography, he was one of the leading fashion photographers for over twenty years working with clients ranging from Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar to Lily Rubin and Mikimoto, before retiring in the early 1990’s. In 2001, his passion for art inspired him to return to the art community full-time and open the Daniel Azoulay Gallery in a spectacular 1200 square foot space at 3900 N.E. 1st Avenue in Miami’s bustling Design District.
With the recent urban renewal in the neighborhood and the opening of many new galleries, the Design District strengthens its position as the center for art in South Florida. Miami is poised, with the recent renovations and expansions of many local cultural organizations, to carve a distinct niche within the international art community. The city is bustling with cutting-edge projects and alternative art programs. The gallery is an active participant in the recently formed CAD, Community of Art Dealers. CAD is an initiative that was started by esteemed galleries, Bernice Steinbaum, and Mr. Azoulay as a collaborative effort to showcase the recent Renaissance of the Design District as well as the numerous young artists who are exploding on the local and international art scene.
The mission of the Daniel Azoulay Gallery is to promote contemporary art in all media from emerging and established artists and specifically focuses on mid-career photographers. The 2002 exhibition schedule for the Daniel Azoulay Gallery is looking to provide an impressive inaugural year. The gallery is actively working on creating a dynamic, international artistic network. The Daniel Azoulay Gallery will be exhibiting emerging and mid-career artists from the global art community, as well as collaborating with established galleries throughout Europe in presenting the work of local South Florida artists. The gallery is pleased that this mission, which is somewhat unique within the South Florida community, has been extremely well received by the established art community.
The Daniel Azoulay Gallery represents and works with local South Florida and international artists. Artists include Harumi Abe, Vicenta Casan, Joseph Dadoune, Elena Ehrenwald, Gil Jacobson, Kevin Lawson, David Ottenstein, Meg Pukel, Doron Rabina, and Jorge Vera, amongst others. The gallery will hold approximately six exhibitions, the majority during season (October through March), a year which will be comprised of solo and group shows.
Mr. Azoulay, and his wife Georgette, is a extremely active member of the local art community. He has also lectured at local universities on the art of photography, as well as acted as a mentor to many emerging artists. In addition, still maintains a studio and continues his exploration of the visual world through his photography.
