FotoFocus Center
Cincinnati - 228 East Liberty Street - OH 45202
The FotoFocus Center stands as a testament to Cincinnati’s enduring commitment to photography as a vital force in contemporary culture. Conceived by FotoFocus, the Center embodies more than a physical expansion; it represents the maturation of an organization that has, since 2010, consistently elevated lens-based art within both regional and national conversations. Purpose-built to showcase photography in all its forms, the two-story facility offers a dedicated environment where historical depth and contemporary experimentation meet, reinforcing the idea that photography is both a document of our times and a catalyst for new ways of seeing.

At the heart of the Center’s mission is a robust photography program that balances scholarship with accessibility. Through carefully curated exhibitions, visitors encounter works by significant photographers from the region and around the world, presented within a framework that honors the medium’s rich lineage while embracing innovation. Building on the legacy of initiatives such as the FotoFocus Biennial—widely regarded as America’s largest photography biennial—the Center extends this spirit of collaboration and inquiry into a year-round setting. Exhibitions are complemented by lectures, symposia, film screenings, and educational programs designed to foster dialogue across generations and disciplines.

The photography collection and associated programming emphasize both the historical foundations of the medium and its evolving technological frontiers. By supporting artists, scholars, and community partners, the Center strengthens a network that has already distributed hundreds of grants and sustained cultural production across the region. Designed by JOSE GARCIA DESIGN + CONSTRUCTION, the building itself reflects clarity and purpose, offering flexible gallery spaces suited to diverse photographic practices—from documentary traditions to experimental digital works. In doing so, the FotoFocus Center affirms photography’s enduring relevance and secures its place at the center of civic and artistic life in Cincinnati.
