Robert & Elaine Stein Galleries

The Robert and Elaine Stein Galleries at Wright State University stand as a cornerstone of artistic and cultural exploration in the Dayton region. Since becoming a collecting institution in 1989, the Robert and Elaine Stein Galleries have built a significant archive of post-1967 Western contemporary art. This year was chosen to align with the founding of Wright State University and the start of a pivotal era in modern culture. The collection includes over 450 works by renowned artists such as Robert Rauschenberg, Cindy Sherman, Jim Dine, and Lucian Freud. A notable addition came in 2008 when the Andy Warhol Foundation gifted the galleries over 150 photographic works through its Photographic Legacy Program, providing a rare and intimate glimpse into Warhol’s photographic practice.
