PWP - Professional Women Photographers
New York - 119 West 72nd Street, #223 NY - NY 10023
Professional Women Photographers (PWP) is a pioneering non-profit organization founded in New York City in 1975 by Dannielle Hayes, with Dianora Niccolini serving as its first president. Created at a time when opportunities for women in photography were limited, PWP emerged as a vital platform dedicated to supporting, promoting, and celebrating the work of women photographers. Nearly five decades later, it continues to play an essential role in shaping the photographic landscape through education, collaboration, and artistic exchange.

The organization’s photography program lies at the heart of its mission to advance women-presenting photographers. PWP offers a rich calendar of activities, including monthly meetings in Manhattan that feature inspiring presentations by leading photographers and emerging talents. These gatherings serve as opportunities for members to share their work, exchange technical expertise, and discuss the challenges and triumphs of creative practice. Complementing these sessions are a series of hands-on workshops, professional development events, and exhibitions that showcase the artistic diversity of its members.

One of PWP’s most significant initiatives is its Annual Student Awards program, which encourages and recognizes the next generation of photographers from New York City high schools. Through mentorship and exposure, PWP fosters an environment where young artists can explore photography as both an expressive and professional pursuit.

Beyond its structured programming, PWP stands out for its strong sense of community. It is a space where collaboration replaces competition, and where members support one another in refining their craft and expanding their creative horizons. As the photographic world continues to evolve, PWP remains steadfast in its mission—to ensure that women’s perspectives are not only visible but central to the ongoing story of photography.
