The Hole Los Angeles
Los Angeles - 844 N La Brea Ave. Los Angeles, CA - CA 90038
The Hole Gallery, founded by Kathy Grayson in 2010, has become one of the most energetic spaces for contemporary art in New York and beyond. From its early days in the Bowery to its expansion into Tribeca and, more recently, into an expansive Los Angeles space, The Hole has built a reputation for showcasing bold, adventurous work that speaks directly to the current cultural moment. With monthly exhibitions featuring both solo presentations and large thematic group shows, the gallery has cultivated an environment where emerging artists can experiment and find their voice alongside established names.

Photography plays a central role in The Hole’s program, affirming the gallery’s commitment to lens-based media as an essential component of contemporary art. The gallery has exhibited photographers who challenge conventions and blur the line between photography, performance, and installation. These projects often highlight photography’s capacity not only to document but also to create immersive, conceptual experiences. The Hole’s photography exhibitions are distinguished by their energy and eclecticism, presenting works that capture the immediacy of youth culture, technology, and identity in ways that feel urgent and fresh.

What sets The Hole apart is its ability to integrate photography into a larger multidisciplinary conversation. Exhibitions often juxtapose photographic works with painting, sculpture, video, and performance, encouraging viewers to consider how photography functions in dialogue with other practices. This approach has made the gallery a hub for artists who are redefining what photography can mean in the 21st century.

By championing photographers within its broader roster of twenty-five represented artists and hundreds of collaborators, The Hole demonstrates how essential the medium is to its mission. Whether in its New York or Los Angeles spaces, the gallery continues to make photography a vibrant and provocative part of the conversation around contemporary art.
