Praxis Gallery and Photographic Arts Center in Minneapolis stands as a dedicated home for photography, offering a rare space where lens-based art takes center stage. As the only non-profit organization of its kind in Minnesota, it plays a vital role in cultivating a vibrant photographic community. Since its founding in 2017, Praxis has consistently championed both new and established voices, mounting exhibitions that span local, regional, and international perspectives. Its programming includes curated group shows, four annual solo exhibitions by local artists, and numerous pop-up events that provide emerging talents with the opportunity to be discovered by wider audiences.

At the core of Praxis Gallery is its unwavering commitment to photography in all its forms—whether traditional, experimental, or digitally reimagined. The gallery’s exhibitions highlight the incredible diversity of photographic expression, from documentary and portraiture to conceptual explorations of identity, environment, and memory. By focusing exclusively on photography, Praxis has developed a collection of work that not only reflects current artistic trends but also preserves the evolving dialogue of the medium. This focus ensures that visitors encounter photography as both an art form and a tool for engagement with social issues, civic responsibility, and cultural transformation.

Praxis believes art should not only delight but also provoke, educate, and inspire change. Its exhibitions frequently confront themes of justice, equity, and collective well-being, positioning photography as a form of activism as well as aesthetic practice. Community is central to its mission, and the gallery actively works to include voices from underserved groups while building cross-generational connections.

With a growing network of supporters that extends well beyond Minneapolis, Praxis Gallery has become a hub for international dialogue on photography. Its dedication to accessibility, inclusivity, and education ensures that lens-based art continues to thrive as a catalyst for thought and social impact.
