Galerie XII Los Angeles
Santa Monica - Bergamot Arts Center, #B2 2525 Michigan Ave. - CA 90404
Galerie XII, founded in Paris in 2007 by Valérie-Anne Giscard d’Estaing, has carved out a singular reputation as a space dedicated to narrative and experimental photography. From its beginnings, the gallery’s mission has been to present photography not only as a vehicle for storytelling but also as a medium that can expand beyond its traditional definitions. Today, Galerie XII embraces a wide spectrum of photographic practices, presenting works that merge image-making with painting, drawing, collage, embroidery, textiles, sculpture, and video.

At the heart of the gallery’s program is a commitment to showing how photography can both stand on its own and intersect with other disciplines. Exhibitions frequently highlight artists who reimagine the medium’s possibilities—whether through intricate hand-altered prints, multimedia installations, or series that blur the line between documentation and imagination. This dedication to innovation ensures that the gallery remains a vital platform for both emerging photographers seeking to make their mark and established artists pushing their practice into new territories.

The opening of Galerie XII Los Angeles in 2018 marked an important expansion, offering a transatlantic dialogue between European and American voices in contemporary photography. Located in Santa Monica, the space connects audiences to a rich and diverse roster of artists, reinforcing the gallery’s role as a bridge between different cultural and artistic contexts.

Active on the international stage, Galerie XII participates in leading art fairs and collaborates with institutions and curators to situate photography within broader contemporary art conversations. As a member of the Comité Professionnel des Galeries d’Art and AIPAD, the gallery has become a recognized authority in shaping how photography is presented and collected today. By championing creativity and risk-taking, Galerie XII continues to demonstrate that photography is not only a mirror of reality but also a dynamic, evolving art form that challenges and inspires.
