Marshall Gallery is a contemporary art space dedicated to showcasing the work of photo-based artists who explore experimental processes, conceptual depth, and exceptional printmaking techniques. Since its founding in 2018, the gallery has been committed to expanding the dialogue around photography’s evolving role in contemporary art and its ability to shape visual culture and collective memory.

Through an ambitious program of exhibitions, artist talks, and participation in major art fairs, Marshall Gallery fosters engagement with both emerging and established artists. The gallery’s curatorial approach embraces innovation, presenting works that challenge traditional notions of photography while celebrating the craft of image-making. By highlighting artists who push the boundaries of the medium, the gallery provides a platform for bold artistic exploration.

Founder Douglas Marshall brings a wealth of experience from working in emerging, established, and blue-chip galleries. In January 2021, he opened the gallery’s first space in Venice Beach, California, navigating the challenges of launching a new venture during the pandemic. Later that year, in December 2021, the gallery relocated to Santa Monica’s Bergamot Station, a thriving arts hub known for its vibrant creative community. From this location, the gallery has continued to establish itself as a leading force in contemporary photography, curating thought-provoking exhibitions and introducing international and local talent to new audiences.

Marshall Gallery is also an active member of the Association of International Photography Art Dealers (AIPAD), reinforcing its commitment to excellence in the field of photography. With a dedication to championing artists and fostering critical conversations, the gallery remains a dynamic and influential presence in the contemporary art landscape, offering a space where photography is not only exhibited but redefined.

All About Photo Presents ’Rural Life in the Hudson Valley’ by Susan Anthony
The photographs in this exhibition are part of a project about rural life in the Hudson Valley. For the past five years, I have been taking photographs of individuals and families in upstate New York. Having spent many years as a weekender and homeowner, most of the people I knew were other New Yorkers, and I never had the chance to meet people who grew up in this rural area. During the pandemic, I spent many hours outside with my camera, walking along the road and photographing local residents. Eventually, I decided to create a project about the people I met. Now, as some of these individuals have become friends, I continue to meet others whose families have lived in this area for many generations.
