Carver Hill Gallery
Camden - 28 Bay View Street - ME 04843
Carver Hill Gallery Contemporary Art has carved a unique niche in Maine’s art landscape through a story rooted in vision, creativity, and evolution. It began in 2005, nestled on a five-acre estate in rural Rockport. There, in a beautifully restored Cape-style home, founder Jana Halwick curated a space where fine art and artisan craftsmanship lived side by side. With every room of the house dedicated to showcasing Maine-made furniture and rotating exhibitions of local art, and the adjacent barn hosting indie films and live music, it was more than a gallery—it was an immersive cultural experience.

In 2010, the gallery expanded into Rockland’s vibrant downtown, recognizing the need for greater visibility and accessibility. The new location quickly flourished, bringing contemporary art into the heart of the community and drawing in locals and visitors alike. Managing two bustling spaces while raising a family eventually prompted a shift—by 2012, operations were consolidated to focus solely on the Rockland gallery, enabling deeper engagement with the fine art that had become Carver Hill’s signature.

As the art world opened up, so did the gallery’s vision. No longer limiting its roster to Maine-based artists, Carver Hill embraced a broader perspective, showcasing compelling contemporary work from across the country and around the world. This bold move elevated the gallery’s profile and diversified its exhibitions, bringing new energy to the Maine coast.

Today, Carver Hill Gallery thrives in a stunning waterfront space in Camden, where seven expansive windows invite passersby to explore its ever-evolving collection. With a seasonal pop-up in Rockland, strategically located near major art institutions, Carver Hill remains at the center of the region’s contemporary art scene—an enduring destination for those seeking innovative, thoughtful, and beautifully curated work.
