Kemper & Anderson Arts Center
Kenosha - 6501 3rd Avenue - WI 53143
The Kemper & Anderson Arts Center, nestled along the scenic shores of Lake Michigan, is a cornerstone of artistic and cultural enrichment in Kenosha. Housed in a magnificent 9,000-square-foot French Tudor mansion, the center seamlessly blends historic elegance with contemporary creativity. Originally a private residence, the building’s grand ceilings, expansive rooms, and open wall spaces now serve as a stunning backdrop for rotating art exhibitions and community programming.

With deep local roots, the center honors the legacy of James Anderson, a former executive at American Brass, and his wife Janet Lance Anderson. Janet’s lineage includes Z.G. Simmons, founder of the Simmons Mattress Company, and her family’s longstanding civic and corporate contributions are reflected in the center’s mission of public engagement and education. The mansion itself is a testament to that legacy—its transformation from a home into a vibrant cultural venue has only enhanced its charm and purpose.

The Kemper & Anderson Arts Center is a dynamic space that showcases the work of local, regional, and national artists throughout the year. Its exhibitions highlight a variety of mediums, from painting and sculpture to ceramics and photography. The center is also known for its robust educational offerings, including children's art classes, summer camps, and music lessons that inspire creativity in young minds.

A beloved seasonal highlight is the Music at Twilight concert series, held outdoors on select Tuesday evenings from June through August. These free events invite the community to relax and enjoy live performances in a picturesque lakeside setting.

In addition to its exhibitions and programs, the center features a curated gift shop filled with handcrafted items like jewelry, textiles, and artwork, offering visitors the chance to support artists while finding one-of-a-kind treasures. The Kemper & Anderson Arts Center continues to foster a welcoming space where creativity and community meet.

Alia Ali
Gilman Contemporary presents a striking introduction to the work of Alia Ali, an artist whose multicultural background spanning Yemen, Bosnia, and the United States deeply informs her visual language. Her photographs, rich in pattern and color, navigate the complex terrain of identity, migration, and belonging. Rather than offering conventional portraiture, Ali envelops her subjects in boldly patterned textiles, allowing fabric itself to become both veil and voice. These coverings obscure familiar markers of identity, inviting viewers to question how much of what we think we know about a person is shaped by what we see—or what we assume.
