Hosfelt Gallery
Hosfelt Gallery
San Francisco - 260 Utah Street - CA 94103
Hosfelt Gallery, founded in 1996 by Todd Hosfelt, has earned recognition for its dedication to presenting art with both intellectual depth and aesthetic clarity. From its earliest days, the gallery has been a space where rigorous scholarship and refined installations come together to highlight artists who may not follow prevailing market trends but who push boundaries in meaningful and enduring ways. Exhibitions range from revisiting significant post-war Bay Area artists to presenting new voices from around the world, establishing Hosfelt Gallery as a site of cultural dialogue and critical thought.

Photography holds an important place within this program, serving as both an archival practice and a contemporary language of exploration. The gallery has presented works by photographers who investigate memory, identity, and perception, situating the medium alongside painting, sculpture, and digital art as part of a holistic conversation about visual culture. Photography exhibitions at Hosfelt often emphasize the poetic and conceptual dimensions of the medium, whether through traditional analog techniques or cutting-edge digital experimentation. This approach reinforces the gallery’s mission of education—encouraging viewers to reflect on the ways images shape our understanding of history and contemporary life.

Equally important is the gallery’s role as a community resource. By honoring the histories of the Ramaytush Ohlone, Muwekma, Miwok, Yokuts, Patwin, and other Ohlone peoples, Hosfelt Gallery situates its programming within a larger continuum of cultural memory and storytelling. Photography, in this context, becomes not only a means of artistic expression but also a form of documentation and preservation, bridging past and present.

As a member of the Art Dealers Association of America, with Todd Hosfelt serving as Vice President of the Board, the gallery continues to uphold standards of excellence while broadening access to art. Its photography collection and exhibitions embody this mission, inviting both scholarship and curiosity in equal measure.
