Brattleboro - 10 Green Street - VT 05301
The Vermont Center for Photography, located in the heart of downtown Brattleboro, stands as a vibrant and inclusive hub dedicated to the photographic arts. Since its founding in 1998, VCP has cultivated a thriving community of photographers, educators, and art enthusiasts by offering a wide range of exhibitions, workshops, and public programs that celebrate the power and diversity of photography.
What began as a grassroots effort under the name “Flat Street Photography” has evolved into a dynamic nonprofit organization. In 2001, it officially became the Vermont Center for Photography, reinforcing its mission to promote photography as a tool for creative expression, education, and cultural dialogue. After more than two decades on Flat Street, VCP relocated in 2021 to a larger, modern space in the High Street & Green building. This move has allowed the center to significantly expand its offerings and deepen its impact on the community.
The new facility includes a contemporary gallery space, traditional darkroom, digital lab, photography library, and even a thrift store for used photo equipment. These resources are designed to support both emerging and experienced photographers, providing them with the tools, space, and community needed to explore and develop their craft. The flexible layout also accommodates artist talks, film screenings, and other public events that foster engagement and learning.
Accessibility remains a top priority at VCP. The center welcomes all visitors with a ground-level entrance and ADA-compliant facilities, and it continues to seek ways to enhance access and inclusivity throughout its space and programming.
With a commitment to artistic excellence and community enrichment, the Vermont Center for Photography remains a cornerstone of Brattleboro’s creative landscape, inviting all who enter to explore, connect, and express themselves through the lens of photography.
