Photographer Steven Forster: 4 Decades of New Orleans Iconography held over to January 24, 2020 at The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation Gallery (located 1201 N. Rampart St. New Orleans, La. 70116.
The exhibition, open to the public, demonstrates his cultural connection with the city of New Orleans & the entertainment industry. Forster, a native New Orleanian & staple of the media business for over four decades, says, The city of New Orleans, with its gravitational pull on the creative class, has fed my creativity the way that it feeds others crawfish & gumbo. Forster's collection highlights photographs of jazz legends & current celebrities.
Jake Huntr, Forster's partner in Forster & Huntr + www.forsterhuntr.com whose photographs are also featured in the exhibit, says, From Ella Fitzgerald to Lady Gaga, Drew Brees to Reese Witherspoon, Steven's photos are a commentary on celebrity culture synthesized with the city of New Orleans. If the city is a body, and entertainment runs through its veins; than Steven's work is the heart at the center of it all. Fitzgerald, in particular, inspired Forster; and, according to him, is one of his favorite pieces. He says, Ella Fitzgerald and her voice have inspired me artistically and musically and has always been part of my life & work...and always will be. Forster's work is featured in public & private collections including the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, the Historic New Orleans Collection, the Contemporary Arts Center, the World Financial Center Winter Garden in New York City and in various international locations.
