United States
Owen Deutsch, a Chicago native, had a twenty-year career as a fashion photographer. He retired in 1986 to devote his time to a second business, Loft Development Corporation—a company with a rich history as an early pioneer in the practice of renovating old urban industrial warehouses and converting them into loft-style office spaces and other uses. In 2002, he was introduced to birding by a close friend who asked for some help with his bird photography. A whole new world opened up to him and he was hooked. He was back in the beauty business again, but this time it was birds, butterflies, and all the magnificent creatures of nature in front of his lens. Owen travels all over the world in pursuit of his passion, and his extensive website is a way of sharing his love of birds with friends. Chicago Tonight on WTTW-Chicago PBS aired a profile on his work ranging from his fashion career to his bird photography.
Astrid Verhoef

Astrid Verhoef
Astrid Verhoef
Netherlands
Astrid Verhoef is a fine art photographer based in Amsterdam. She graduated from the Arts Academy “Hoogeschool voor de Beeldende Kunsten Utrecht” in 1998. Astrid started as a classic landscape photographer, inspired by photographers like Ansel Adams, but gradually felt the need to express herself differently, in a manner that more reflected her imagination and creativity. She started building a new portfolio around 2007, and by 2010 she had fully adopted the theatrical visual language we can recognise in her photography today. Her work can since be defined as surreal compositions, showing figures and objects that seem to be at odds with the desolate environments they find themselves in. Astrid aims to emphasize the contrast between the human presence and the landscape, while exploring her personal relationship with the natural world. Throughout her career Astrid also worked as a curator, and has produced exhibitions in New York, Amsterdam, Leiden and Tokyo. She’s collaborated with Photoville New York and was a program manager and curator for photography platform Photo31 from 2018 until 2024. But her main focus will always be her autonomous artwork which leads her to magnificent landscapes, from The Netherlands and Spain to Australia and the USA, to explore her personal relationship with the natural world. Astrid usually works solo and therefore is also the model in most of her images. If needed she uses basic collage techniques in her artworks top achieve the desired image, but she never adds any components by using AI. The props and figures are all actually photographed, which makes every artwork a cherished memory as well. Astrid’s artworks have been internationally awarded, and have been exhibited in London, Amsterdam, Los Angeles, Berlin, Cannes, Milan, New York, Paris, Rotterdam, Sydney, and Tokyo. Her artwork is included in the collection of the Société Nationale des Beaux Arts in Paris.

Jack Savage is one of the UK’s most celebrated fine art photographers, acclaimed for his haunting black-and-white "Definitive Ambiguities" series. A certified Adobe Photoshop CC expert, Savage fuses classical film noir lighting with precise post-production to create images steeped in moral ambiguity, repressed desire, and an undercurrent of violence. Winner of the Pangea Prize at the Siena International Photo Awards, two consecutive Gold medals at the Tokyo International Foto Awards, Photographer of the Year at the Black & White Spider Awards (Los Angeles), and First Place at the Mono Awards, Savage draws heavily on the cinematic language of Otto Preminger and Orson Welles. His work echoes the words of historian Alain Silver, who described film noir as “a cinema of moral uncertainty and dangerous seduction,” and James Ursini, who noted its “dark urban poetry.” All portraits in this series feature residents from Savage’s hometown of Northampton, England, intensifying what Ursini might call the “claustrophobic menace” of the Midlands’ urban landscape. From shadow-draped alleys to the spectral “men in hats,” Savage’s noir vision transforms everyday streets into charged stages of human drama, where desire and danger meet in a single frame.

Germany
My artistic journey began immersed in the vibrant Hungarian art scene, where I studied drawing, jewelry making, graphic design, photography and contemporary dance. While my initial passion was drawing and painting, photography quickly became my primary voice. I further deepened my skills by earning a diploma in communications design from the University of Applied Sciences Dortmund in Germany, followed by an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. These experiences, coupled with growing up between different worlds, have profoundly shaped my perspective. My conceptual work delves into themes of home and belonging, the psychology of language in Western culture, the impact of societal change, and the spectrum of human emotions and the soul. My practice is deeply rooted in my experiences as a migrant and nomad, constantly adapting to new environments that demand a complete rewiring of the brain, total openness, and reorientation. Change, the most constant aspect of life, is at the core of my explorations, prompting me to delve into reorientation, loss, the unknown, and even death. My work is held in numerous private collections and has been exhibited internationally across Europe and the US. Notable venues include festivals like inSPIRACJE and Art Moves in Poland, Goethe Institutes in Morocco, Prague, New York, and France, and galleries such as Don Soker Contemporary Art in San Francisco. Museum exhibitions include the MKK - Museum for Art and Cultural History Dortmund, Germany, and Blue Star Contemporary in San Antonio, Texas. I've been recognized with an honorable mention from PX3-Prix de la Photographie Paris, included in the San Francisco Arts Commission's Prequalified Artist Pool, and awarded residencies at the 3rd Street Studio Programs (San Francisco Art Institute), BANFF Center for Arts and Culture (Canada), and the Vermont Studio Center. I've also received several honorable mentions from the International Photography Awards.
