In 2026, the Friends of Jean Giono Association, in parallel with the third edition of its short story contest, is
organizing a photography contest inspired by the same opening sentence as the short story contest :
“All these extraordinary landscapes, chosen for their extraordinary qualities and placed in front of the lens
at the angle that best expressed their qualities, composed, seen one after the other, under my lamp
surrounded by night, an immense unreal country...” (Jean Giono, Noé)
This contest is organized in partnership with the Regards Alpins association, a member of the Friends of Jean
Giono association, which also organizes numerous photography events related to literature.
This free contest, with no registration fee, is open to all lovers of photography and the work of Jean Giono,
whether they are amateur and/or professional photographers, regardless of their age and place of residence.
Participants are given complete freedom to take a photograph, or a coherent series of several photographs,
inspired by and in dialogue with the opening words chosen for this edition.
Photographs must be submitted before June 15, 2026. Full details of the conditions of entry are available in
the competition rules, which can be consulted on the websites of the two organizing associations.
The anonymized works will be submitted to a jury composed of specialists in the work of Jean Giono and
renowned photography experts. It will be co-chaired by Sylvie Giono, Jean Giono's daughter, and Hans
Silvester, a renowned professional photographer.
Several prizes will be awarded during the Rencontres Giono on Saturday, August 1, 2026. As with the short
story competition, the photography prizes will be awarded as follows: 1st prize €500 – 2nd prize €300 – 3rd
prize €200.
Photographs must be sent, by email only, to : concours-giono@regards-alpins.eu, in the form of jpg/jpeg files no more than 2000 px wide, before June 15, 2026.

the photograph.
