All About Photo invites photographers from around the world to submit their best work for
AAP Magazine’s 52nd printed issue, dedicated to the theme STREET.
What is Street Photography?
As defined by Encyclopedia Britannica, street photography is “a genre that records everyday life in a public place.” From its earliest beginnings, photographers have used the medium to document life around them. One of the first known street photographs, View of the Boulevard du Temple (1838) by Louis-Jacques-Mandé Daguerre, depicted a Parisian street nearly two centuries ago.
As technology advanced and cameras became more portable, many photographers turned their lenses toward the streets. Pioneers such as Charles Nègre, Eugène Atget, Alfred Stieglitz, André Kertész, Berenice Abbott, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Brassaï, Walker Evans, Robert Frank, Diane Arbus, Vivian Maier, Garry Winogrand, Lee Friedlander, and William Eggleston shaped the genre and captured urban life in all its complexity.
Today, street photography remains one of the most vibrant and expressive forms of visual storytelling. It reflects the spontaneity, beauty, humor, and humanity found in everyday moments, while also revealing the soul of a society and its people.
What We’re Looking For
For this special issue, we want to see your vision of the street—whether it’s the bustling energy of a big city, the quiet moments of small-town life, or surreal encounters in public spaces. The subject matter is entirely open: we welcome both digital and analog photography, in color or black and white, including experimental processes and monochromatic toning.
Send us a cohesive body of work or portfolio that captures the essence of the streets around you, from the weird to the wonderful.
