'The city of Guanajuato is home to a multitude of narrow alleys and colorful old houses.' With this basic information and my prior knowledge of beautiful San Miguel de Allende, I decided to take an intensive tour of these two cities. As soon as I stepped out onto the street for the first time in the early morning in Guanajuato, I was completely amazed by the different levels of its streets, the narrow alleys, and the lights and shadows cast by this unique architecture.
My long walks began in the alleyway on Calle Terremoto, where I was staying, and continued throughout the day through the winding alleys of Guanajuato. On these walks, I encountered situations and images that bordered on the surreal. Both there and in San Miguel, along with the color and architecture, the warmth of the locals, the cobblestone streets, the sounds and smells, and the local celebrations and traditions that blended religious elements, added a unique character to the experience.
Every corner revealed something new and different, transforming my walks into an experience completely unlike any other I had known before.
Federico Borobio
I was born and live in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Since I was young I understood that I wanted to have many lives, that one life would not be enough to satisfy my desire to experience different realities. I have been a lawyer, journalist, audiovisual producer, co-director of a cultural space and a short film festival, cultural manager, teacher and, for more than eight years now, my obsession is to go out with my camera to let myself be surprised by people, places, situations, serendipities and that kind of beautifully unpredictable thing.
I love walking the streets, they are my jungle. I enjoy observing their dynamics and details, talking to people, learning about their lives, bonding, and for all of that to permeate my work. I see everything transforming in front of me in combinations of people, lights, colors, shadows. Furthermore, I always felt like a fish in the water among a crowd, whether it is at a sporting event, a festival for the people, or a protesting demonstration. These energies lift me up and nourish my photography.
If I have to define genres, I could say that I do street, documentary and social photography, although I don't care about these kinds of labels. I wander, I interact, I search and search for myself, that's all. At this stage, in this life, what interests me most is to continue transforming myself through these experiences and evolving along with my photography.
My work has been recognised by the Sony World Photography Awards, The Independent Photographer, Urban Photo Awards, Mobile Photo Awards, Tokyo Foto Awards, Paris Street Photo Awards, Eyeshot Magazine, Premio Jalón Ángel and Conexión Calle de México, among others, and has been published in Docu Magazine, All About Photo Magazine, F-STOP, Progressive Street, and the book Derrumbe. I have exhibited my work at Praxis Gallery, Galería Arcimboldo, Faro de Oriente, Museo de Zaragoza, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Lima, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Querétaro, Magazzini Fotografici Center in Naples, Magazzino Arti Sceniche in Bologna and Trieste Photo Fringe.
