''This is a work I shot in Central Park, New York, in November 2016, for the first time collaborating with Annie Leibovitz for the Moncler brand. It was arranged by Eli Klein Gallery, and we completed two works at the time: one was in the most historically significant bookstore next to Central Park, and the other was this piece, completed in Central Park. We entered the park from the northwest side, and Leibovitz chose a backdrop of high-rise buildings, but I hoped and insisted on capturing the authentic autumn and tranquility of New York City, and finally convinced Leibovitz. Together, we completed this piece.
In this work, I am hidden in a quiet corner of the city, as if concealed within a primeval forest. The beautiful yellow of the leaves brings out the metropolitan charm and a profound sense of thickness, imbuing the city's history and vicissitudes into every vein and texture of the leaves. In my mind, these forests are witnesses to the city's historical memory, documenting New York’s development, making this piece a means of communication with the city.
Over the next two years, this work appeared in airports, subways, and on the surfaces of significant buildings in many countries, and was printed as a large wall advertisement. During the 2017 Venice Biennale, the two pieces were continuously displayed at the baggage claim area of Venice's Marco Polo Airport in Italy, making them the first things people saw when they flew in for the Biennale.'' -
