According to meteorological observations, Seoul experienced its highest snowfall in December 2023 and January 2024 in 42 years.
Starting January 2024, Seoul was transformed into a white wonderland, courtesy of the heaviest snowfall in four decades. Overwhelmed with joy at the sight of snow blanketing Seoul, I embarked on a leisurely stroll around Cheonggyecheon with my camera in tow. Unlike the towering skyscrapers of North American cities where I reside, the quaint charm of the old market and Dongdaemun, with their winding alleys, adorned with layers of snow beneath Cheonggyecheon, filled me with delight.
The entire family reveled in the rare opportunity to witness snowfall after such a long hiatus. Watching the father of the family, filled with childlike glee, as he frolicked along Cheonggyecheon, it was as if he had been transported back to his youth.
Jaejoon Ha
My name is JAEJOON HA. I'm from South Korea and working based in New York City. I’ve been working on street photography while understanding many places in the world. I got inspired by many people in the city. The first time I started taking pictures was when I got married and went on a honeymoon to the Czech Republic and Austria for about a month. I studied on my own to take wedding photos just the two of us without any knowledge, but now I am walking around the streets with a camera. I went on a honeymoon, got married in Seoul, finished my life in Korea, and moved to North America. I never thought I would start photography there. I started to understand life in America in New York when I was around 29 years old. My life and understanding of photography are still lacking, there are many things to learn on the road, and I need to encounter more diverse paths. On the streets, I learn and acquire everything.
