The campaign is named after the date of the first two earthquakes of 7.8 and 7.5 magnitude, February 6th, impacting over twenty million people in Turkey and eight million in Syria, with a death toll of over fifty thousand people. The devastation is wide-spread and will require years of recovery, with millions of displaced people in need of shelter and a consistent supply of basic needs including food, water, clothing and hygiene products. The print sale was created with the aim to raise funds to support non-governmental organizations leading the way in urgent recovery efforts and organizational needs on the ground in the earthquake region.

SIX.TWO Editions was inspired by similar fundraising campaigns that preceded it, namely Pictures for Elmhurst, a photo print sale fundraiser for Elmhurst Hospital Center in Queens, New York during the first months of the COVID-19 pandemic, and States of Change, an online print sale launched in October 2020 to fight voter suppression in swing states. The organizers of SIX.TWO Editions, who are US-based creatives with ties to Turkey, were searching for a meaningful way to rally their community to join global aid efforts and subsequently initiated this campaign.

“We knew something had to be done urgently, and that we had the ability to call upon our community for support,” the SIX.TWO Editions organizers said. “Having seen the success of campaigns like States of Change and Pictures for Elmhurst, we began reaching out to a few fellow artists and were incredibly encouraged by the response. An initial sense of powerlessness quickly turned to the realization that many artists were willing to help and wholeheartedly said yes when we brought up the initiative.” The fundraiser’s generous donors include a wide range of artists with a number of highly regarded names in the photographic community.

Prints can be purchased directly on the SIX.TWO Editions website, www.sixtwoeditions.com.

Prints are sized 10x12” and printed with archival ink on cotton-based, archival paper, produced by printing partner, Light Work, a non-profit photography organization. Each print is priced at $150 and can be shipped worldwide..

Six Two Editions has partnered with Turkish Philanthropy Funds (TPF) to ensure that funds are processed and distributed to NGOs in Turkey with full transparency and accountability. We are confident that this partnership will enable us to make a meaningful impact in the lives of those affected by the earthquake. TPF is the leading U.S. community foundation for high-impact social investments dedicated to Turkish and Turkish-American communities and is a tax-exempt organization described in Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Detailed information on the receiving organizations can be found on the SIX.TWO Editions website, www.sixtwoeditions.com..
