Behind the Shot: The Golden Veil
'Light on Threads' is a photographic series conceived as a visual monograph - a study of light, texture, and chromatic intensity through repetition of the same subject. These yellow Vietnamese fishing nets, photographed at different times of the day under only natural light, reveal shifting shades, moods, and tactile impressions. I played with light entering from the sides and front of a small covered outdoor space, similar to a veranda, to illuminate the fabric like brushstrokes on a canvas, reminiscent of a Caravaggio painting. The folds and shadows recall the depth and drama of baroque chiaroscuro, transforming a humble object into something painterly. This particular image, Golden Veil, was taken at sunrise, when a spectacular beam of natural light entered the veranda, igniting the nets with a radiant glow. The series invites the viewer to look closer - beyond subject and gesture - toward the subtle shifts in luminosity, perspective, and the chromatic intensity of yellow. The aim was to create a near-synesthetic experience, where colour and texture stir sensations beyond the visual, echoing touch, warmth, and memory. Ultimately, this is an exploration of atmosphere, perception, and the painterly potential of photography.
