The Photography Technology Program at the County College of Morris (CCM) provides a comprehensive and dynamic education for students eager to build a future in photography. Whether your goal is to launch your own business, continue your studies at a four-year institution, or develop your craft as an artist, CCM offers the training and mentorship to help you succeed. The program blends creative exploration with technical mastery, ensuring that graduates emerge as versatile visual storytellers capable of adapting to an evolving industry.

Students begin with a strong foundation in both digital and traditional darkroom photography, gaining a deep understanding of exposure, composition, and image processing. This first-year experience emphasizes hands-on learning, encouraging students to experiment with cameras, lighting, and visual form to develop their artistic voice. In the second year, the curriculum expands to include specialized studies in studio lighting, color photography, video production, virtual reality, postproduction, and portfolio building.

The 40-credit core curriculum includes courses such as Photography I and II, Analog Photography Techniques, Color Photography, Studio Lighting, Contemporary Photography, Documentary Photography, and Moving Images. Each class is designed to strengthen both the creative and professional aspects of a student’s practice. Additional offerings like 2D and 3D Digital Design or Photography and the World allow for interdisciplinary exploration, linking photography to broader visual and cultural contexts.

Throughout the program, students receive individualized attention from experienced faculty who are active practitioners in the field. Emphasis is placed on professional readiness—students learn to build strong portfolios, manage color workflows, and present their work effectively for clients, galleries, or transfer applications.

With state-of-the-art facilities and a curriculum that rivals major art schools, the AAS degree in Photography Technology from CCM provides an ideal foundation for further study or immediate entry into the creative workforce, fostering both artistic excellence and real-world competence.
