Apexart Gallery in New York City stands as a dynamic and inclusive force in the world of contemporary art. Founded in 1994, apexart has consistently challenged traditional models of curation and exhibition, positioning itself as an incubator for innovation and critical thinking in the arts. With a mission grounded in openness, the organization believes that creativity thrives in accessible, diverse, and non-hierarchical environments.

At the heart of apexart’s programming are its signature Open Calls, which invite curators and creatives from around the world to submit exhibition proposals. Unlike typical gallery models, the selection process is uniquely transparent and democratized, relying on large, decentralized juries composed of hundreds of international reviewers. This process eliminates insider bias and levels the playing field for emerging and underrepresented voices, making the selection of exhibitions more reflective of global perspectives.

Beyond exhibitions, apexart’s Fellowship program offers artists and curators a deeply introspective, non-productive experience. Rather than focusing on artmaking, the program emphasizes exposure to new cultural contexts and personal growth. Participants are immersed in unfamiliar settings, engaging in activities designed to challenge assumptions and expand creative thinking.

To date, apexart has produced over 240 exhibitions in more than 30 countries, giving visibility and professional opportunity to over 1,200 artists and curators. The gallery’s reach is truly global, with projects spanning urban and rural settings, each tailored to reflect local narratives and contexts. More than 210 fellowships have supported artists and curators from over 50 countries, fostering cross-cultural dialogue and personal transformation.

Apexart continues to redefine what an art institution can be—eschewing commercialism, embracing experimentation, and amplifying voices from all corners of the world. Its commitment to education, fairness, and creativity ensures its lasting impact on both artists and audiences.
