The museum’s collection spans over five centuries, featuring works from 1500 to the present day. Visitors can explore an impressive range of art, from Old Masters to contemporary pieces, displayed across three architecturally distinct buildings designed by Eliel Saarinen, I. M. Pei, and Richard Meier. These celebrated structures not only house world-class exhibitions but also serve as artworks in their own right, creating a truly immersive experience.

In addition to the main campus in Greenwood Park, the Art Center oversees the acclaimed John and Mary Pappajohn Sculpture Park, a 4.4-acre public space in downtown Des Moines showcasing large-scale works by celebrated contemporary artists. The park invites visitors to interact with art in an open-air setting and has become an iconic destination for both locals and tourists.
