The Atlanta Photography Group (APG) has served as a vital force in the Southeastern arts scene since its founding in 1987. Built on the vision of a small, passionate group of photographers and collectors, APG was established to create more opportunities for contemporary photographers to exhibit and grow their work in Atlanta. What began as informal gatherings in members’ homes quickly evolved into a dynamic nonprofit organization that champions the medium of photography as a significant contemporary art form.

Now Atlanta’s oldest photography art center, APG opened its first gallery in downtown Atlanta in 1988 and gained 501(c)(3) status that same year. In 2002, the organization moved to the Tula Art Center, and later to its current home in Ansley Mall, where it continues to present compelling exhibitions that reflect the diversity and evolution of photographic practice today.

Exhibitions at APG are often juried by prominent figures in the photography world, including curators, gallery owners, and educators, offering artists valuable exposure and recognition. The gallery is free and open to the public, making it a welcoming space for all who are curious about the power and potential of photographic art.

Beyond exhibitions, APG offers a robust calendar of programming, including artist talks, project reviews, peer critiques, and workshops. These events foster creative dialogue, community building, and professional development, creating a space where photographers at every stage of their journey can learn and grow.
