Copenhagen International Photography Festival 2027

Copenhagen International Photography Festival 2027
Nov 15, 2026 – Nov 21, 2026

Multi-Venue Copenhagen
Copenhagen, Denmark

Copenhagen Photo Festival is one of Scandinavia’s leading photography festivals, bringing together contemporary photography, lens-based art, and a diverse international community of photographers, artists, curators, and photography enthusiasts. Held across the Danish capital, the festival offers an opportunity to discover established names alongside emerging voices and to experience photography in a wide range of contexts. The 17th edition will take place from November 15–21, 2027, marking a move from the festival’s traditional summer schedule.

The 2027 edition is centered around the theme “Fri hænder | A Free Hand,” inviting artists to embrace uncertainty, experimentation, playfulness, and the unexpected. Rather than prescribing a single way of approaching photography, the theme opens the door to projects that challenge conventions, explore new perspectives, and venture into unfamiliar territory. It reflects the festival’s broader interest in photography as a medium that can question how we see and understand the world around us.

Throughout the festival, exhibitions will take place in venues across Copenhagen, bringing photography into galleries, cultural institutions, and other spaces throughout the city. The program extends beyond exhibitions, with talks, workshops, events, and opportunities for artists and audiences to meet, exchange ideas, and engage with contemporary photographic practices.

A particularly interesting opportunity for photographers is the Solo Artists 2027 open call, which invites photographers and visual artists working with photography and lens-based art to submit their projects. Ten projects will be selected for festival features, with three to five ultimately presented as solo exhibitions. Selected artists will receive an artist fee, curatorial support, and promotional opportunities.

Copenhagen Photo Festival continues to offer an important platform for discovering new photographic work and encouraging dialogue between different approaches to the medium. With its 2027 theme, “A Free Hand,” the festival invites photographers to let go of expectations, experiment, and perhaps see where the image takes them.
