La Gacilly-Baden Photo 2026 returns from June 12 through October 11, transforming the Austrian spa town of Baden into one of Europe’s largest open-air photography destinations. Spanning gardens, streets, and public squares, the festival presents dozens of large-scale exhibitions that invite visitors to experience photography beyond the traditional museum setting. With free admission and a route extending for several kilometers, the event continues to demonstrate how photography can engage broad audiences while encouraging reflection on contemporary society and the natural world.

The 2026 edition pays tribute to two influential figures whose legacies continue to shape visual culture: pioneering primatologist Jane Goodall and renowned documentary photographer Martin Parr. Their dedication to observing both humanity and the natural environment echoes the festival’s long-standing commitment to social awareness and environmental responsibility. This year’s program unfolds through three major themes, combining international documentary photography, environmental storytelling, and a celebration of Austrian photographic talent as part of the bicentenary of photography.

Among the highlights is SO BRITISH!, a wide-ranging exploration of life across the United Kingdom through the eyes of some of Britain's most respected photographers. The exhibition examines national identity, humor, social change, and everyday rituals while featuring work by celebrated names including Don McCullin, Martin Parr, Terry O’Neill, Anna Atkins, and several contemporary artists. Together, their images reveal the complexity and diversity of British culture beyond familiar stereotypes.

Environmental issues remain central throughout the festival. Exhibitions devoted to oceans, rivers, wildlife, and climate change bring together photographers whose work documents fragile ecosystems and communities living on the front lines of environmental transformation. Underwater photography, scientific collaborations, and long-term documentary projects underscore the increasingly urgent relationship between humanity and the planet's natural resources.

Since its creation, La Gacilly-Baden Photo has established itself as a major international meeting point for photography, combining artistic excellence with public accessibility. By presenting hundreds of monumental photographs in an urban landscape, the festival encourages visitors to slow down, look closely, and consider the many ways photography connects history, culture, science, and the rapidly changing world around us.
