Fotofestival Lenzburg 2026
May 9, 2026 – Jun 7, 2026

Lenzburg, Switzerland

Fotofestival Lenzburg 2026 unfolds across the towns of Lenzburg, Aarau, and, for the first time, Baden, transforming everyday spaces into a constellation of images and encounters. Under the title Forever Happy, the festival navigates the fragile terrain of happiness, treating it not as a fixed state but as a shifting condition shaped by desire, pressure, and imagination. Streets, shop windows, and exhibition venues become sites where personal longing meets collective narratives, revealing how deeply the idea of happiness permeates contemporary life.

Rather than offering easy answers, the exhibitions approach happiness as something unstable and often contradictory. In Happy Pills, Paolo Woods and Arnaud Robert trace a global journey through the pharmaceutical pursuit of well-being, suggesting that chemistry increasingly replaces introspection. Their work exposes a world where emotions become measurable and manageable, yet never fully resolved. Nearby, a tribute to Martin Parr reflects on love as both genuine and constructed, capturing its awkward displays and quiet sincerity within the spectacle of modern consumption. Together, these projects highlight the tension between authentic feeling and its commodified image.

The festival also amplifies more intimate explorations of joy and identity. Karla Hiraldo Voleau’s You Can Have It All (In Return for Everything) approaches the body as a site of transformation, where vulnerability and empowerment coexist. Across other exhibitions, artists turn to suburban landscapes, childhood memories, migration, and digital culture, each probing how happiness emerges, fades, or resists definition. Whether through staged performances or documentary observation, these works reveal that joy often resides in ambiguity rather than clarity.

Forever Happy ultimately positions photography as both witness and participant in this pursuit. Images freeze fleeting sensations, yet also question the need to capture them at all. Moving through the festival, visitors encounter not a singular vision of happiness, but a mosaic of attempts—some hopeful, some critical, all deeply human—suggesting that the search itself remains the most enduring experience.
