FotoFest is preparing an extraordinary celebration of its four-decade legacy with the upcoming Biennial 2026, titled Global Visions – FotoFest at 40. This landmark event honors forty years of innovative photographic art and education, showcasing the impact FotoFest has had on the global visual arts community while reinforcing Houston as a dynamic hub for artistic exchange.

From March 7 through May 10, 2026, audiences will be invited to explore the vibrant Sawyer Yards galleries in Arts District Houston, where the Biennial will present a diverse and immersive experience. Artists from the United States and more than 58 countries will be represented, reflecting a rich spectrum of creative practices, cultural perspectives, and artistic experimentation.

Curated by FotoFest co-founder and former artistic director Wendy Watriss, along with executive director Steven Evans and co-curators Annick Dekiouk and Madi Murphy, the central exhibition of the Biennial revisits the organization’s extensive archives. It highlights pivotal exhibitions, publications, and citywide photo and mixed-media projects that have defined FotoFest’s history. This retrospective lens not only celebrates past achievements but also emphasizes the evolving dialogue between local and international photography.

The Biennial 2026 promises a layered and compelling presentation, featuring hundreds of artists who have shaped FotoFest into a global nexus for photography and visual culture since its inception in 1986. Visitors will encounter both historical and contemporary works, offering insight into the organization’s influence on the development of photographic arts over forty years.

In addition to the exhibitions, the history and highlights of FotoFest’s transformative programs will be documented in a forthcoming publication, allowing audiences worldwide to engage with the organization’s contributions to visual culture.
