Galleries from across China and abroad present projects that examine the intersections of technology, narrative, and artistic expression. Supported by an extensive public program, the fair has grown into a vital platform for dialogue, offering opportunities to encounter new voices while returning to enduring themes within photographic history.

In 2026, PHOTOFAIRS Shanghai will once again take place at the Shanghai Exhibition Centre, offering a renewed focus on the ideas steering today’s image culture. The fair’s program introduces special exhibitions, awards, and thematic discussions that trace recent developments in both photography and digital art. Central to this is the Insights section, which invites a guest curator each year to reflect on a defining moment or thematic thread within the medium.

For the upcoming edition, Insights draws inspiration from significant cinematic anniversaries, illuminating the shared lineage between film, photography, and video art. The presentation will feature contributions by Jia Zhangke, Liu Zheng, Yu Liwei, and Apichatpong Weerasethakul, whose works expand on questions of memory, motion, and perception.
