Exposure: 25 Years of FMoPA marks the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts’ quarter-century milestone with a selection of works drawn from its permanent collection. On view from July 23 to December 6, 2026, the exhibition brings together well-known names and local favorites in a presentation shaped by recent gifts, many of which have not been shown before.

The show gives a clear sense of how the museum has grown. Works by Sally Mann, Nan Goldin and Martin Parr sit alongside photographs by Bud Lee, Selina Roman and the late David Hall, creating a range that moves from internationally recognized figures to artists closely tied to the region. That mix gives the exhibition its character: it reads less like a ceremonial anniversary display than a working account of an institution that has built its collection piece by piece.

The emphasis on unseen acquisitions matters. New gifts often reveal a museum’s direction more clearly than its familiar holdings, and here they suggest a broader view of what photographic art can contain. Portraiture, social observation, personal memory and documentary urgency all appear within the same frame, reflecting a collection that has expanded with the museum itself.

At 25 years, FMoPA uses the exhibition to acknowledge the people behind that growth as much as the objects in it. Collectors, artists and supporters all helped shape the institution’s identity, and the installation makes that history visible without turning it into nostalgia. Instead, it places the collection in motion, showing how a museum’s past continues to inform what it can still become.

Exposure is, in that sense, both retrospective and practical. It presents a museum looking back at its own record while also making room for the next chapter of its collection.
