Transcendence by Leslie Gleim

Transcendence is a visual narrative which asks us to look beyond the reality of the photograph(s) as a recorded document, but rather to have it seen as a visual journey into the revelation of self.

By using an aerial perspective, I juxtapose immense landscapes and its rivers, in creating tension between reality and metaphor. This perspective encourages us to transcend beyond one’s understanding of what is but to instead allow one’s own internal emotions and manifestations to help define what it might be. Each photograph moves us along a metaphoric journey of personal reflection and enlightenment.

Through this work I hope to raise deeper questions about the broader tapestry of life and the preservation of our shared environment.

Leslie Gleim

Leslie Gleim is a Honolulu-based fine art photographer known for her distinctive visual narratives created through aerial and macro perspectives. Her ongoing work seeks to understand the complex relationships and tensions between the natural, climatic, and human impacts upon the Hawaiian ʻāina (land). With a particular focus on the volcanic ecology of Hawai’i, she captures the regenerative and dynamic process shaped by the volcanic activity and explores the profound changes that are created by those powerful forces on the ʻāina. By documenting this delicate balance between nature and human influence, she hopes to inspire and provoke thoughtful dialogue about environmental stewardship of our planet.

Leslie's work has been widely exhibited and published locally, nationally, and internationally. Her work "Life Of The Land" was recently purchased into the Art in Public Places Collection of the Hawai’i State Foundation on Culture and the Arts. Leslie is represented by Susan Spiritus Gallery, Irvine, CA.
