For the past two decades his work has focused on endangered landscapes and cultures displaced by environmental, social, economic and political causes. His work has won numerous awards and is exhibited internationally. David is an honors graduate of Brooks Institute (BFA, 1981). In 1982 he moved to New York City and began a career photographing landscape, environmental and conceptual projects. David’s studio in Taos, New Mexico was built to LEED certified standards for sustainability. His studio is entirely solar powered, uses catchment water and is passive solar heated. David is the 2009 recipient of the Sony World Photography Awards L’Iris D’or Prize for his work in the deserts of the southwestern United States. Having spent 15 years working in India, David’s recent work has focused on the Tibetan exile community. In addition to his own work photographing in urban and remote settlements, David has held workshops teaching photography to Tibetan refugee students as a means of communication and cultural preservation.
