For more than 23 years, she has also worked in the social sector, focusing on child sexual abuse awareness, support for children affected by HIV, and the welfare of single-parent families. This long engagement with vulnerable and underrepresented communities has deeply influenced her photographic approach, which is rooted in empathy, dignity and cultural sensitivity.
Her photography has received numerous national and international awards and recognitions, including the National Geographic India Calendar 2026 and multiple shortlists at the Hamdan International Photography Award (HIPA). Her work has also been exhibited and featured on several national and international platforms. One of her photographs was included in a commemorative coffee-table book presented to the Honourable Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, marking another significant milestone in her photographic journey.
Alongside her personal practice, Ramya mentors photographers and conducts workshops on travel photography, cultural documentation, portraiture and visual storytelling.
Her work is guided by a simple philosophy: Seen. Felt. Framed.
